Colorful school supplies on a table

Students and Families:

It’s hard to believe we are just about a month away from the first day of school! As you enjoy the last few weeks of summer, we have some important reminders for you:

CELL PHONE POLICY

A new state law is now in effect that prohibits the use of cell phones by any student during the school day. For elementary and middle school students, this is a continuation of the procedures Tulsa Public Schools enforced last year that require phones and other personal electronic devices to be put away for the entire school day. This will mean new policies beginning on the first day of school for high school students where devices may not be used at all during the school day.

If you want to learn more about the law, you can access it here. If you have questions or concerns about the new law, please reach out to the principal at your student’s school, including for exceptions for medical or other reasons.

IMMUNIZATION UPDATES

Oklahoma law requires that all children enrolled at a public or private school must have documentation of the required immunizations or an exemption on file in order to attend school.

In order to begin the school year at your enrolled school, we must receive documentation of your student’s state-mandated immunization requirements OR a certificate of exemption.

We want to welcome your student on the first day of class on Wednesday, August 20. We need your help to make that happen. If you have not already submitted this documentation, you can do one of two things:

1. Visit your healthcare provider, the Tulsa City-County Health Department, or an upcoming community immunization clinic to have your child immunized and bring that paper documentation to the Enrollment Center at 2819 S. New Haven Ave. between the hours of 8am and 5pm, Monday through Friday.

2. For inquiries about immunization exemptions or to complete an immunization certificate for exemption for medical, religious, or personal objections, please visit the Oklahoma State Department of Health website. After completing the form, you will receive an email of completion from OSDH.  Please bring that to the Enrollment Center.

You can find a list of upcoming immunization opportunities on our website and a list of required immunizations for the 2025-2026 school year on the Oklahoma State Department of Health’s website.

We are excited for a great start to the 2025-2026 school year! Don’t forget that we will be focusing on setting our students up for success by encouraging them to attend school every day. Please click here to read more about how Tulsa Public Schools will be working to improve chronic absenteeism and what you can expect for the upcoming school year.

Thank you for partnering with us to ensure the success of every student.

Joyfully,

Dr. J
